Hopes and Dreams

Holding Onto Dreams

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:17

Everything you do, do as if you are working for God. Because you know what? You are.

How many times have you dreamed about new beginnings, got butterflies in your stomach at the endless possibilities and floated on cloud nine with excitement? Only to then have the reality and practicalities of your dream bring you back down to earth and you think ‘how?’ The fear, the doubt and the overwhelming feelings start to sneak their way into your thoughts which can cause you to back peddle, squash your dream before you even take the first step and then you convince yourself it was never meant to be.

Sound familiar?

Yet, when you know that your dreams are God-given dreams designed specifically for you and spoken to you, then you will have the faith you require to believe that God has already equipped you with what you need – gifts, talents, abilities and tools. You may not see it in every aspect of your life or yourself but some things are waiting to be revealed in the right moment (because where would the excitement in life be if we didn’t have anything new to learn, right?). It takes faith to hold onto a dream and it takes strength and prayer to start turning it into a reality.

As my seasons of life change, so many times I have been that person thinking ‘how will this EVER happen?’, yet as I continue to seek God’s will for my life my mindset shifts to ‘Wow, this could actually happen’ until finally, I can say ‘It did happen!’

Every season, circumstance and dream in your life is a journey that needs to be experienced through faith and trust and a commitment to never give up. You have to play your part in your own life and you need to show up.

I know it can be easy to become discouraged with things, start to listen to the fear and the doubt and then before you know it, you stop believing that God has good things for you. You can choose to stop believing that your dreams are not God given dreams and shove them way back down to a point where they don’t exist any more. You probably even think ‘oh, that wasn’t for me, I heard wrong’.

Yet, whatever God says to you, He will never take back. His promises are yes and Amen.

“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it” – Isaiah 55:11.

His promises are true and He is faithful to bring them into existence when you are faithful to do your part. Your part requires you to commit fully using your gifts and talents, it requires faith over fear. It requires making God’s voice loudest in your life and doing the best you can then trusting God to cover the rest.

Even if now is not the right season for your dream to come to pass, you can take steps today to hold on to your dream and prepare for the future.

Here is my tip to get started:

Write it down in a journal or diary. Date it. Come back and read it regularly to remind yourself of what your future holds.
